Jong Bhak did BSc. in biochemistry in Aberdeen University, Scotland, in 1990. He then went to do his Ph.D. with Tim Hubbard and Cyrus Chothia in MRC centre, Cambridge, UK, doing his thesis on genome analyses and protein structures. In 1998, To know more about the functions of genes, he joined George Church to analyze gene expressions using DNA chips.
Since Sep. 2009, he is the director of Theragen BiO Institute in Korea.
He supports the free exchange of bioinformation, such as personal genome information, as it is the essence of human beings, being one of the supporters of ‘free genomics’ or ‘$0 genomics’ to build a free depository and analysis server of the genomes for all humans. (http://jongbhak.com)
In 2001, he took a group leader position at MRC-DUNN, Cambridge. He was one of the bioinformatists who analyzed the first Korean genome sequence read by Solexa, in 2008 (Dr. Kim Seong Jin's, published in Genome Research, not Nature or Science).
